The winner of six Filmfare Awards and Lifetime Achievement Awards, Salim Khan, is one of India's most prominent screenwriters, producers, and actors. During the early 1960s, he was spotted by director K Amarnath, who offered him a role in the film 'Baraat'. However, the movie did not do well, and he had to work in B-grade movies and play different roles for the next decade. After getting cast in 25 films, he switched to writing scripts. His film 'Do Bhai' became a hit in 1969. Also, Khan and Javed Akhtar formed a script-writing team called Salim–Javed. They made a debut in mainstream cinema with 'Haathi Mere Saathi' (1971). Later, 'Andaz', 'Seeta Aur Geeta', 'Yaadon Ki Baaraat', 'Zanjeer', and 'Don' became some of their notable projects. 'Sholay' (1975), written by Salim–Javed, was ranked first in the British Film Institute's 2002 poll of 'Top 10 Indian Films' of all time. In 2014, he was awarded Padma Shri, but he rejected the award, saying he deserves Padma Bhushan.
